The sustainable development goals also known as SDGs are goals that were put by the United Nations Members state in 2015 as a plan of peace and prosperity to reach by 2030. The 2030 agenda was put as a universal plan to be worked on and applied to all countries in order to strengthen the societies from different aspects. There are 17 goals in the SDGs each targeting a cause; to its date there are 169 targets, 3040 events, 178 publications and 5419 actions.
As part of the national process to implement the SDGs, in June 2017 the Council of Ministers issued Decree 69 that established an inter-ministerial national committee for enhanced coordination. There are two civil society representatives on the committee (Hariri Foundation for Sustainable Human Development and Caritas Lebanon). Late in 2017 the Lebanese Government has organized several workshops and meetings that demonstrate it is strongly committed to engaging all stakeholders in implementing the SDGs, and hearing their visions, priorities, challenges and needs so that no-one will be left out of Lebanon’s SDG strategy.
