In 2000, Hariri Foundation partnered with the Arab League and the National Council for Women in Egypt to organize the first summit for Arab Women. The summit acted as a unifying framework for women across the Arab region. The following year, Hariri Foundation launched the Arab Women’s Award to celebrate woman pioneers across the Arab region.
The first award was given to the eminent Egyptian actress Faten Hamamah. On a first-ever occasion in observance of the Arab Women’s Day, the actress Hamamah received an invitation by the Hariri Foundation to the UNESCO Palace in Beirut, where she was awarded the “Arab Women’s Award 2001.”
