CMC | Children’s Municipal Council

Year

1999 – 2010

National

In partnership with the Lebanese Ministry of Education and Higher Education, Hariri Foundation launched the Children’s Municipal Council (CMC) on the International Child Day in 1999. The project aimed at developing a strong sense and understanding of democracy among students, enhancing & reinforcing their citizenship and fostering responsibility and pride towards their community. Throughout CMC, children were empowered to voice their needs through representative councils and to improve their teambuilding skills and leadership abilities.

The project targeted public and private schools across Lebanon in the six-grade class, engaging over 25,000 children in their local CMC election process. Each of the elected councils were then engaged with local municipalities and classified into 8 committees tackling environment, sports, tourism, artistic and cultural activities, advertising, information technology, children rights, and finance.
