In 1999, Hariri Foundation and UNESCO organized a joint project aimed at enabling municipal governments and child advocates to implement the participation principles of the Habitat Agenda, Agenda 21, and the Convention on the Rights of the Child. Project partners pushed young people to unleash their energy and ideas to diagnose their own realities and to define their priorities. Children were motivated to advocate for the changes they believe could render a more promising future for their cities.
Through networking, research, and action, the project provided models of interdisciplinary, inter-sectoral collaboration for listening to the voices of young people and creating more responsive urban policies and practices.
