In 1998, Hariri Foundation partnered with the Lebanese National Commission for UNESCO and Beirut Arab University to organize the final session of the Third Regional Symposium on Science and Technology and Conservation of World Heritage Site. The symposium brought together experts and stakeholders from across the Middle East to discuss research findings on the subject matter in the region.

Participants exchanged experiences in scientific and technological methods for conservation and agreed to common, localized conservation project procedures, informing upcoming projects in Lebanon and the region. The symposium’s recommendations were announced from Hariri Foundation’s Khan El Franj, located in Saida’s historic district, and were disseminated across the region.
