In 2023, Hariri Foundation partnered with Medcities and the Municipality of Saida to establish a new green space in Saida. The project aims at creating a new landmark destination and major facelift for the city and its neighborhoods. The public park, Al Aman Garden (Arabic for “Safety”), represents a major contribution to the ongoing urban regeneration of Saida, located on a prime plot at the heart of the Wastani coastal district. The park’s layout and landscape design were developed by the Municipality of Saida and Hariri Foundation, as a national model for innovative green public open spaces.

The public park comprises diverse zones, providing safe spaces for communal and commercial activities, children entertainment and learning, as well as urban agriculture and e-gardening.

Amidst the socioeconomic crisis and the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, Hariri Foundation partnered with the Disaster Risk Management Unit at the Lebanese Presidency of the Council of Ministers, the Federation of Municipalities of Saida-Zahrani and the Lebanese Red Cross to establish a legal crisis and disaster risk management unit at the local level. The unit aimed at consolidating the efforts of the 16 municipalities in Saida-Zahrani in managing crisis and disaster risks and to align them with the National Strategy for Disaster Risk Management. Hariri Foundation collaborated with national and local partners to equip and support the unit and its operations room, linking local pre-established sectoral networks with local authorities to enhance preparedness for disasters and adopting scientific indicators in disaster risk reduction and disaster risk management.

To this day, Hariri Foundation supports the unit through data management and geographic information system services, informing the unit’s strategic decisions for preparedness and multi-agency response. The foundation works with the unit to promote partnerships and tools for data-driven decision-making as well as community-based disaster risk management through outreach and joint planning with the local community.

In partnership with CISCO Systems International and the Lebanese Ministry of Education & Higher Education, Hariri Foundation collaborated with 26 certified Cisco Networking Academies (CCNA) academies in TVET schools, universities, and colleges across Lebanon. The project’s ultimate goal was the upskilling of students and educators through the provision of advanced technical training with a gender-sensitive lens and to help women and men equally qualify for emerging job market opportunities. ICT trainings were provided to 26 academies, annually targeting 7,500 students, 65 teachers, and 22 key trainers.

The project was complemented with an internship component for excelling trainees as well as a research component on women’s status in the Lebanese ICT sector, entitled “Needs, Challenges and Opportunities.” Towards the completion of the project, Hariri Foundation and its partners established a database to track the employment status of participant CCNA graduates.
