In 2002, Hariri Foundation partnered with CHF, USAID and the Economic Development Advisory Council (EDAC) to carry out a joint project aimed at advancing blossom and rose water production in the village of Maghdoucheh, Saida. The project featured a capacity building component offered to local farmers, producers, and other stakeholders, to transfer the know-how in improving the quality and increasing production of blossom and rose water while reducing production costs. The project also featured the empowerment of the Agricultural Cooperative of Orange Blossom and Agricultural Products of Maghdoucheh through providing them with access to improved production and marketing services.
Towards the end of the project, a blossom and rose water production facility was established, providing local farmers access to proper storage and production services, and enabling the cooperatives in Maghdoucheh to purchase the extra production of blossom and roses from flower farmers and process these in the facility using modern technologies The project resulted in the increase of blossoms by 50% and decrease of production cost by 60 % with 2000 people benefiting from this project, providing 20 jobs per season and generated profits were reallocated for facility upgrade. The project also resulted in the establishment of a new brands Nesma and Zahra, and collaborating with BankMED to sustain the initiative through its corporate social responsibility.
