Memory and Belonging

Year

1996 – 2000

Address

Saida

In partnership with UNESCO, Hariri Foundation carried out its annual “Memory and Belonging” workshop from 1996 to 2000. The workshop aimed at strengthening children’s sense of belonging to their city, based on their knowledge of their surrounding and their role in society. Students from across Saida formed teams, every team adopting and studying an archaeological or heritage site along with its surroundings in Saida’s historic district. Over the course of the project, a total of 2,977 students were engaged.

Every academic year, nearly 1,000 students conducted scientific research on their adopted sites under the supervision of specialists. Towards the end of the year, students presented a collective exhibition of their research findings, exchanging knowledge and building a common understanding of their surrounding.
