Research & Training on Preventing Violent Extremism

Overview

In 2016, the Government of Lebanon launched the National Agenda for Preventing Violent Extremism (PVE) as a response to the UN Secretary-General’s Plan of Action on to prevent violent extremism. The agenda comprised an all-of-government consultation for the development and ratification of a National Strategy for Preventing Violent Extremism and an all-of-society engagement in the development and implementation of an executive action plan. The general societal endeavor engaged public organizations and administrations, scholars, researchers, NGOs, representative bodies, and the private sector.

Since 2017, Hariri Foundation supported the national agenda through mainstreaming PVE concepts and building awareness on the National Strategy for Preventing Violent Extremism. The foundation maintained active participation in the societal consultations and further acted as an advocate of the National Action Plan for Preventing Violent Extremism, mobilizing national and local organizations and individuals to partake in the implementation of several actions of the executive action plan.
